Water Sample Collector, Volunteer

Water sample collectors will visit local beaches, follow the established protocol for Surfrider’s International water quality monitoring program. Volunteers will collect water at established monitoring sites, or from your local beach for lab analysis at The Science and Math Institute located in Tacoma. Volunteers will check out a sampling kit and drop samples at pre-arranged times at the High School. 1 hour a week. Commitment flexible.

Public Relations Coordinator, Volunteer, credit available

The public relations coordinator will be responsible for publicizing South Sound Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation events with membership, media, and the community. Surfrider Foundation is an International non-profit organization interested in ocean conservation, activism, research, and education. This volunteer position will serve the Tacoma-Gig Harbor area. Duties will include planning and organize an annual social fundraiser, attend tabling events, writing Action Alerts via local media and Social Media, creating a Facebook Page from an existing group, and securing /designing handouts and flyers for events. Our chapter is actively working to develop and document community partnerships with environmental groups, shops, media, MetroParks and the public relations coordinator will help the chapter develop talking points and help forge these connections in the community. Volunteers should be willing to commit 5-10 hours each week. The chapter would like to find a volunteer with Public Relations experience or education, who is self motivated, organized, reliable and willing to fill a 6 month to 1 year commitment.
