Join us for our monthly chapter meeting on Wednesday, May 27, from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at Ocean Friendly Restaurant Tacoma Pie Pizzeria Come for the free pizza and stay for the ocean action. We’ll share chapter updates, highlight upcoming volunteer opportunities, and welcome guest speaker Stena Troyer, a marine biologist, Surfrider Blue Water Task Force Coordinator, and Science Director at Harbor Wildwatch a nonprofit that inspires stewardship of Puget Sound and the greater Salish Sea through community-based science and education. You’ll learn why seaweed matters to this ecosystem and create your own pressed seaweed art to take home. All supplies are provided.
Kick off summer with a beach party where the only thing we’re tossing is trash—into bags, not the ocean:
Saturday, June 27, 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. – Owens Beach, Tacoma
Sunday, July 5, 1:00–3:00 p.m. – Purdy Spit, Gig Harbor– show up for the *dirtiest* beach day of the year and help clean it up
Saturday, August 22, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. – Thea’s Park, Tacoma
All ages are welcome—we’ll bring the gear, guidance, and good vibes. You bring a couple of hours and walk away knowing you helped make our beaches visibly cleaner and healthier.
At Surfrider, every chapter is powered by an energetic crew of volunteers steering the Executive Committee—often juggling multiple roles with flair. The core team rocks five essential positions, with extra spots available for those who crave variety and impact. Step up as a volunteer and you’ll find yourself deep in the action at EC meetings, rolling up your sleeves at beach cleanups, and connecting with passionate advocates at chapter events all year long. Ready to make waves with us? Jump into a cleanup, swing by a chapter meeting, and make sure your Surfrider membership is up-to-date—no expired beach passes here! Explore the roles below. Current openings: Co-Chairs, Volunteer Coordinator, and Beach Cleanup Co-Coordinator.
