May South Sound Session

Orca Night at the Museum

Join us for Orca Film Night on Wednesday, May 14, at 6:30pm at the Harbor History Museum in Gig Harbor featuring Emma & Annie Stafki the talented sisters from South Puget Sound behind Two Girls Take on the World. At just 20 and 15, they are making a name for themselves in documentary filmmaking with their environmental passion. Their debut film, Echos of the Sound, which they fully created themselves, has received high praise. It won Best Online Short Documentary at the Friday Harbor Film Festival, Best Overall Film at the New York International Women’s Film Festival, Best Youth Film at the Colorado Environmental Film Festival, and an Honorable Mention at the Big Blue Festival. As a special treat, children's author Sharon Mentyka will read from her middle-grade novel about orcas, "Chasing at the Surface," which won the 2016 National Outdoor Book Award for Children’s books. She has also written picture book biographies about Bill Gates, Sue Bird, and Dale Chihuly. Sharon, who has an MFA in Writing, lives in Seattle, Washington, and also works as a graphic designer. Get your free ticket at the link at the top of the page.

Get ready to dive into summer fun! Join us on June 15th for a Father's Day Beach Cleanup extravaganza with Harbor WildWatch—it's the perfect way to celebrate Dad and Mother Earth! Pencil in this date for a beach cleanup and low tide discovery walk that promises both adventure and impact. Get ready for July 5th, the Dirtiest Beach Day Cleanup at Purdy Sand Spit. We'll be tackling firework debris with boots on the ground and kayaks/SUP in the Sound—because who said cleaning up can't be an epic adventure? And whatever you do, don't skip August 9th! It's a triple threat of Beach Cleanup, Yoga, and another Harbor WildWatch Low Tide Discovery Walk. To keep the good vibes rolling, make sure to sign up at the links above for your specific cleanup and fill out the participant waiver. Let's ride the tide to a tidier coastline!

2025 Open Positions

Every Surfrider Chapter is steered by a lively crew of volunteers who wear many hats on the Executive Committee—sometimes all at once! We've got five main gigs, plus a few extra roles for those who like to keep things interesting. Volunteering means you'll be rubbing elbows at monthly EC meetings, getting sandy at beach cleanups, and mingling at chapter shindigs throughout the year. To kick things off and get cozy with our team, dive into a beach cleanup, pop by a chapter meeting, and make sure your Surfrider membership is as current as your sunscreen. Check out the volunteer roles below. Current openings include Co-Chairs, Volunteer Co-Coordinator, Beach Cleanup Co-Coordinator, and Finance/Accounting.
